Quick Overview

50 years old (yo) whisky is very rare. The Scotch whisky industry allows for 2% evaporation a year (called the Angels’ Share) so theoretically a cask should be empty after 50 years. Some distilleries look after casks for a lifetime to ensure they have a 50yo single malt, but often the strength falls below 40% and cannot be classed as a whisky. Very few distilleries have managed to release 50yo malts. Grain whisky, essential for blended whisky, rarely reaches extreme old age. Grain distillery owners don’t manage their wares in the same way malt distilleries do, so often stocks have disappeared by the time 30 years have passed.

Product Description

We at Ian Macleod are one of the few companies to have ever bottled a 50yo blended whisky. We have worked vigilantly towards making old blends but have only managed to do so twice in our 75 year history, and only in very small quantities. When successful, the blends are worth the work – with tropical fruits, herbal complexity and cask spice combined in unique and pleasing ways. This special Marshall blend is a great example of this all too rare commodity.

Just like this unique 50yo whisky you are now the proud owner of, 2012 sees Marshall celebrate 50 years of existence – an equally rare event in the often “here today, gone later today” world of guitar amplification. And, just like the contents of this bottle, Marshall has only become better with age. We have done so by taking Jim Marshall’s innate ability to listen to what guitarists want and fully understand it, then exceed their expectations by blending it with engineering-expertise; modern technological advances; good old-fashioned handcraftsmanship; top-shelf build-quality; pride and, of course, 100% proof reliability.

The true test of a world-class blended 50yo whisky is in the taste; the true test of a world-class 50yo amplifier company is in the tone.Hence this unique marriage is a win-win. This perfect pairingdoesn’t merely “go to 11” – they both go to 50!
Sip. Savor. Enjoy...
